צלצל (v. צלל) 1) to vibrate; to have a clear ring. Y. Succ. V, 55c bot. וכ׳ מצלצל היה ולא and it had not the clear ring as before. - 2) to clap. Pirke d'R. El. eh. XVII בכפיה ומצלצלת she clapped with her hands (in joy);(Yallk. Kings 232 ידיה בכפי ומסלסלת).
צלצל ch. same, to shriek or shout. Y. Ter. VIII, 46b bot. מצלצל שרי he began to shout.
צלצל, ציל׳ m. (b. h.; preced.) 1) cymbal. Y. Succ. V, 55c bot. וכ׳ מקדש של צ׳ the cymbal of the Temple originated from Moses' days. Ib. 55b bot. הצי׳ . מיריחו in J ericho they could hear the sound of the cymbal (of the Temple). Shek. V, 1 הצ׳ על ארזא בן (the family of) Ben Arza had charge of the cymbal. Y. ib. 48d bot. הנים בצ׳ א׳ בן והקיש . . . when the Sagan waved the flag, B. A. struck the cymbal; Tam. VII, 3; Cant. R. to IV, 4. Arakh. בלק (cmp. צל) to split. Hull. 124a מצלק דצלקיה when he split the stove across the width, v. גיסטרא. thpe. אצטליק to be split. Ber. 56b [read;] לחבלא ושרו וא׳ אדוכתיה וקם וחד חד כל אזל לחבלא שרו דישיה דא׳ ער (Ms. M. אסתליק) let the rope go until he is split up to his head. They let the rope go, when each tree bounded back to its natural position, and his body was torn aparrt.
צלקת f. (preced.; cmp. חזזית) a rough, scabby surface, scar. Keth. 75a if a dog bit her, צ׳ מקומו ונעשה and the spot of the bite became scarred. צמא Im., צמאה f. (b. h.)[shrunk,] parched, thirsty. Taan. 22b צ׳ ולא שכורה לא that the ground be neither drunk (oversated) nor thirsty; a. e. -- Pl. מאיםx, במאין; צמאות. Midr. Till. to Ps. CXVIII, 19 הייתי צ׳ משקה I used to give drink to the thirsty; לה׳ השער זה לו אומרים והם בו הכנס צ׳ משקה ed. Bub. and they (in heaven) say to him, this is the gate of the Lord', thou, who hast been a giver of drink to the thirsty, enter thereby. Ib. to Ps. XXII וכ׳ החחיות כל וכשצ׳ and when they are thirsty, alll the beasts gather around her (the hind) &c.; a. e.
צמא II (b. h.; preced.) to be thirsty. Hif. הצמיא to cause to perish froom thirst. Sifre Deut. 199 (ref. to Deut. XX, 10 וכ׳ להצמיאה ולא . . עליה להלחם. 'to wage war against it, but not to let it perish from famine or thirst, or cause it to die from pestilence; a. e.
צמא m. (b. h.; preced.) thirst. Ex. R. s. 2 (Moses said to the lamb) וכ׳ צ׳ מפני . . . לא I did not know that thou didst run off on account of hirst; hou must be tired &c. Ber. VI, 8 לצמאו מים השותה he who drinks water to satisfy his thirst. Pirke d'R. El. ch. XXX הצ׳ מיתת death from thirst; a. e.
צמאה f. (b. h.) same. Yoma 77a (ref. to Jer. II, 25) כ׳ לידו גרונך . מנעי withhold thy tongue from evil talk, that thy throat may not be doomed to thirst; Yalk. Jer. 266 צמאון; a. e.
צמאון m. (b. h.) same, v. preced.
צמד (b. h.) to press together; to join, couple. Gen. R. s. 5 הארון בדי שני בין צמדן Rash (v. comment. Y'fath Toar a. l.) he matched them (arranged them according to ranks) between the ttwo bars of the Ark (ed., a. Yalk. Josh. 14 סמכן; Lev. R. s. 10 שמן). -- Part. pass. צמוד; f. נמודה &c. Num. R. s. 12 צמודות אלא צב אין tsab (Num. VII, 3) means well-joined (wagons, by ref. to Is. XLIX, 22 בחצן, v. חון I; v. Targ. a. l.). Nif. נשמד to be attached, yoked. Tanh. Bal. 18 [read;] וכ׳ לזו זה ונצמדו and they were joined to one another; thus it is written (Num. X XV, 3), and Israel was joined &c.; ed. Bub. 28 וכ׳ זה ונצמדים. צמד ch. same, 1) to join, attach, harness. Part. pass. צמיד; . צמידא; pl. צמידין, a) attached, harnessed. Targ. I Kings XIX, 19. - b) attached to, addicted to, in the habit of. Lam. R. tto III, 9 וכ׳ קינדלוי עיית צמיד הוה Ar. (ed. הוה וכ׳ מסדרא; Y. Maas. Sh. V, 56a top עביד הוה) made it a. habit to prepare his lights on Friday &c. (v. עות ch.). Lev.
