צנע ch. same, to guard. B. Kam. 23b דליתצנעינהו... זיל (Ar. אצעינהו Af) go and tell the owner of the goats to guard them (from trespassing on my property). -Part. pass. ניע; pl. צניעין a) reserved, kept, guarded. Targ. Y. Deut. X, 5. - B. Bath. 58a באיסורא צניעת לא אמאי why art thou not more guarded in thy immoral conduct?--- b) retired, chaste, v. בניע. Af. אצנעto put aside, deposit, withdraw (from use). Targ. Num. XVII, 22. Targ. Lev. XVI, 23; a. fr. - B. Mets. 25b וכ׳ מצנעי אמוריים אטו is it only Amorites that hide (their treasures in walls) &c. B. Bath. 24a ואישנועי מניה דמיגניב מצנעי לא בגויה Ms. M. (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note for Var. Lect.) as to being stolen from there and hidden, they would not hide it in the same grounds from the surface of which they had taken it. צנעא, צנעה, צי׳ f (preced.) secrecy; בצ׳ privately. in secret, without ostentation. M. Kat. 12b שיכניסם ובלבד וכ׳ בצ׳ provided he brings them into his house with the least publicity possible. Ib. הוא יממא דהני צ׳ the least publicity in bringing these (joists) in is, if it is done in day-time. Snh. 75a, opp. בפרהסיא. M. Kat. 24a שבצ׳ דברים נוהג one must observe (on Sabbaths or festive days) such customs of mourning as refer to domestic privacy; Keth. 4a צ׳ של דברים. צנף, צניף ch. same, 1) (of the woodcock) to shriek, sueak. Targ. II Esth.I, 2 (3). - [Targ. Is. XIII, 22 Kimhi in ed. Ven. I Var., v. נצף.]-- 2) to neigh. Pes. 113a . לא וכ׳ צניף דלא live not in a place where no horse neighs, no dog barks &c.
צנפא f. (preced.; cmp. ציץ a. derivatives) uppermost branch; border, fringe. Targ. Is. XVII, 6 ed. Lag. (oth. ed. ענפא; h. text אמיר). -- Naz. 22b בצ׳ . . בעיקרא Ar. does he seize it by the root or by the top?, v. צננא. - Pl. גפתא , constr. צנפת. Targ. Y. II Deut. XXII, 12; Num. XV, 38 גולת׳ צ׳ (not דג׳).
צנצנת f. (b. h.; v. צנן) a bottle of glossy material. Mekh. B'shall., Vayassa, s. 5; Tanh. B'shall. 2 1 (ref. to Ex. XVI, 33) וכ׳ המצי דבר . . . צ׳ תל . . . יודע איני 1 should not have known of what material it was, whether of silver . ., therefore the text has tsintseneth, something that glistens more than anything else, that is, a (glazed) earthen vessel. Ib. המן צ׳ the bottle of manna (which was preserved), v. צלוחית. Tanh. Noah 18 וכ׳ מלאה צ׳ a. bottle full of live locusts.

צנתרין m. pl. (cmp. צגור) spouts, tubes. Targ. II Esth. I, 2 (corresp. to צנתרות, Zech. IV, 12).
צעא m. (v. צועה) plate, dish. Hull. 47b דקוניא צ׳ a glazed earthen plate. Pes. 111b וכ׳ דחצבא אפומא צ׳ to hang a plate on the snout of a pitcher is indicative of poverty; a. e. -- Pl. צעי. Bets. 32a חקלייתא צ׳ the dining plates of the peasantry, v. אירונית. Meg. 7b וכ׳ צ׳ שתין sixty plates of sixty different dishes. Yoma 83b,v. לוגא; a. e.
צעד (b. h.) to step, walk. Taan. 20b מי בפני צעדתי ולא וכ׳ I never walked in front of one my superior; Meg. 28a. -- [Yalk. Ex. 346 חצועד, v. צוער] Hif. הצעיד to cause to walk, direct. Ber. 29b שתוליעני וכ׳ ותצעידני לשלום that thou mayest lead me in safety and direct me in safety. Pi. ציעד to climb. Pirke d'R. El. ch.
