a means of grace. Ab. II, 13 וכ׳ רחמים אלא ק׳ . .. אל make not thy prayer a perfunctory act, but a means of mercy and grace. Ib. I, 15 ק׳ חורתך עשה make thy study of the Law a regular engagement. Num. R. s. 2, beg. ק׳ . . . משם וכ׳ שמתפללים from this the institution of three daily prayers is derived; a. fr.
קבעא, קי׳ ch. same, appointment, fixed time or place. Pes. 101b הדר קמא לק׳ (some ed. לקיבעיה) he goes back (refers in his mind) to his first appointed place for the meal. Zeb. 7b top וכ׳ מכפרא לא מק׳ a dedicated sin-offering does not effect pardon (for a sin of commission) directly by its dedication, but only by implication (when going along with a sin of omission). Ib. 6a וכ׳ מכפרא לא מק׳ it (the designated meal offering left to heirs) has its pardon- ing efect not through appointment (as if the heirs had a. share in it) but merely by implication, v. קביעותא.

קבעתא f. pl. (קבע II) setting, frame. B. Bath. 6a ק׳ דכשורי (Ms. R. a. Rashi אקבועי) the wooden lining of the cavities in the wall in which the beams are fixed.
קבץ (b. h.) to press, gather. Ab. Zar. 19a (ref. to Prov. XIII, 11) ירבה יד על קובץ ואם but if he collects learning little by little, he will increase it, v. חבילה; Erub. 54b (corr. acc.). -- Part. pass. קבון; pl. קבועים, קבוצין. Y. Shebi. II, 33d top עמו הק׳ את נוטל (not עמה) he may ttake with himm the collected rakings. Gitt. 56b (ref. to Koh. VIII, 10) אק קבוצים אלא קבורים read not k'burim (buried) but k'butsi (the wicked taking up heaps of spoil). Pi. קבץ same, to collect. Ib. 7a quot. in Ar. (ref. to Josh. XV, 21 ויגור ועדר קבצאל) וכ׳ יגור . . . עדרים המקבן כל he who gathers flocks (students) to the study of the Loaw, shall dwell in the partition of the Lord. Midr. Till. to Ps. קבר (b. h.) [to cave out; to arch,] to bury. Snh. 52a מי את קובר מי הנראה (Ms. M. נראה הא) we shall see, which will cover which (which will die first). Sot. 14a הקב'ה מתים קבור . . ק׳ the Lord buried the dead, . ... thou- ttoo, bury the dead (consider attending to the dead a. religious duty). Nidd. 24b הייתי מתים קובר I used to be a grave-digger. B. Bath. 15b וכ׳ לקבור . . . לא he had no place where tto bury Sarah; Ex. R. s. 6. Treat. S'mal . ch. XII וכ׳ תחלה קברני first bury me in the valley, and then collect my bones. Sabb. 151b וקביר, v. חפיר; a. fr. - Ab. Zar. 38a וכ׳ ישראל ביה וק׳ after an sraelite had hidden a pumpkin in it (the oven). -- 2) (of tide) to overflow, inundate. Gen. R. s. 13; Koh. VIII, 2; a. fr. - Snh. l. c. מדאיקבור צדיקי since righteous men are buried (it would seem that burial is not for the sake of purging the dead from sin). Ib. וכ׳ ליקברו נמי הנך they (the other members of the house of Jeroboam) ought also to have been buried for the sake of atonement. Ib. 104a וכ׳ איקברא ולא קברה he buried it (Joiakim's skull), and it would not remain under ground, buried it again &c.; a. e.
קברm. (b. h.; preced.) grave. Snh. 47b חדש ק׳ a fresh grave (that has been dug but not used). Ib. בנין ק׳ a. grave on which something has been built, i. e. an arched grave (not flat). Ib. הנמצא ק׳ הן קברות שלשה there are three kinds of graves (with reference to law); a grave that has been discovered (a fresh grave in which some- body was buried without the consent of the owner of the ground); הידוע ק׳ a known grave (in which one was buried with the owner's consent); הרבים את המזיק ק׳ a grave which interferes with public comfort (made in a thorodghfare).
