R. l. c. אם וכ׳ שעל שמים נתקהו if the heavens above you have become hard as iron &c., v. supra. Ib. וכ׳ התלמיד על הרב נתק׳ אם if the teacher has been unyielding to the pupil like iron (out of patience, and refusing to teach him) . . ., and the teacher shows not a friendly face (does not relent) &c. Ib. אם וכ׳ הרב על התלמיד נתק׳ if the pupilhas been annoying to his teacher (through his obtuseness or wearisome questions) , and the tteacher refuses to explain &c.
קהי, קהא ch. same, 1) to be blunt (and loose); to be dull, faint. Targ. Y. II Gen. XXXIII, 4 (Y. I אתמזמיז). Ib. XXXII, 26 וקהת (some ed. וקחת, v. קחח; Y. I זזע; h. text ותקע). -- [Targ. IKings XIV, 4 קהאה (ed. Wil. כהאה; ed. Lag. קמא; h. text קמו.]- 2) to be stale, distasteful. Ber. 56a וכ׳ עסקך קהא Ms. F. (ed. קאוי fr. קוא; Ms. M. פסיד וקאזיל עסקך, read וקאוי) thy business (wine store) will be stale (and taste) like a pomegranate. -- Part. pass. קהיה, pl. קהיתין (cmp. המי, a. חמת׳). Lev. R. s. 19 קהיתין הא are they (the vessels with wine you have been examin- ing) spoiled?; [hAr. s. v. הקהיתה;קה is it spoiled ?]. -- 3) to be unrelenting, rigorous. B. Mets. 52b נפש מקרי אזוזי דקהי רעה Ar. (ed. דמוקים) he who is rigorous in matters of coins (refusing a coin for slight imperfections) is called a malevolent soul' (v. נפש). Pa. קהי to give an acrid taste to. Pes. 116a צריך לקהוייה one must give the pap (חרוסת) an acrid taste (with apples and wine). Af. אקהי [to blunt a person's teeth,] to refute, argue. Yeb. 110b מקהו Ar. a. Var. in Rashi (ed. מקוו), v. אקווא.
קהיות f. (preced.), שינים ק׳ bluntness of teeth; trnsf. old age. Yalk. Lam. 996 וכ׳ ש׳ בק׳ לו שנתן בן the son that was given him (Abraham) in his old age, when he was one hundred years old.

קהל (b. h.; cmp. קול) to call. Hff הקהיל to assemble. Ber. 61b; AAb. Zar. 18a מקהיל ברבים קהילות called public assemblies (to teach). Gen. R. s. 99 וכ׳ קרח כשיקהיל (some ed. כשיקהל) when Korah will gather his followers for strife, my (Jacob's) name shall not be joined with them. Yalk. Ex. 408 שילמדו כדי וכ׳ להקהיל . . . that coming generations may learn from thee to assemble congregations every Sabbath; a. e. Nif. נקהל to be assembled. Gen. R. s. 98 שהן בשעה וכ׳ על נקהלין when they will be assembled against Moses in the party of Korah &c. Lev. R. s. 24 בהקהל . . . פרשה וכ׳ this section (Lev. XIX) was proclaimed in full as- sembly (v. ib. 2), because &c. Koh. R. to I, 1, v. קהלת. Hithpa. התקהל same. Gen. R. s. 99 (ref. to יקהת, Gen. קהל m. (b. h.; preced.) gathering, congregation. Y. Hor. I, 46a bot. (ref. to Num. XV, 24, העדה) השבטים כל ק׳ קרויין all tribes together are called kahal; . . . שבט כל ק׳ every tribe for itself is called k.; Bab. ib. 3a . . . ככגון וכ׳ ק׳ של רובו when six tribes have sinned, and they form the majority of the congregation (the entire peomle) &c. Ib. קק׳ דאיקרו הוא הני only they (the entire people) are call- ed k. - Kidd. 73a ודאי קהל a community of Israelites of undoubted legitimacy; ספק ק׳ of doubtful legitimacy; Y. Yab. VIII, 9bbot. ברור ק׳; ספק ק׳. Ib.[read)] קהילות ארבע וכ׳ כהנים ק׳ יי׳ ק׳ אינון four communities are meant by the congregation of the Lord (Deut.
