קונטרא, קינטרה c. (קטר II, with anorg. ) knot, knotted web as of matting, sieves &c.; laces or ropes dran transversely. Y. Meg. III, 74b bot. (describing the arrange- ment of Esth. IX, 6810, beginning with איש on one side, under which the names of the sons of Haman are arranged. in a column, and with ואת on the other side, v. אריח) [read:] קינטרה כהדין ונחיץ שניץ הוא שכן so that (in read- ing transversely) it appears laced and closely corded like transverse lacing (of a web); [Beth Jos. toTur Or. Hayim 691 קנטירא, read; קינטרא; Treat. Soa'rim XIII, 6, variously corrupted]. -- Pl. קונטרן. Y. Sabb. VIII, 10c top דעבד ההן וכ׳ נפן ק׳ (Or Zaru a Sabb. 64 מנפן קושדן) he who malkes (on the Sabbath) knotted (corded) webs, sieves, mats &c.

קונטרינים m. pl. (corrupt. of קונטריונ׳, centuriones) centurions, commanders of centuries. Sifre Deut. 31 (play on בשן בלי, Deut. XXXII, 14) שניהם מבין שמכישין ק׳ אלו (not שמכינין) that means the (Roman) centurions that cause striking from between theiir teeth (command attacks on unarmed people); Yalk. ib. 944 וכ׳ שמכישין קוטרינין.

קוניון m. (קנא) revengeful. Gen. R. s. 42 הוא זה אברם וכ׳ ק׳ this man Abram is vindictive, and when I tell him that his brother's son was captured &c.; Yalk. ib. 72 קנאי.
קונייה f. (קנה) possession, dear wife. Midr. Till. to Ps. XXII, 20 וכ עומדת vקוניית thy dear wife stands without, and thou sittest within?; Yalk. ib. 687 קונעתך, v. קונעה.
קונייתה f. pl. kunyatha, a plant resembling colocasia. Y. Maasr. V, end, 52a.
קונכי f. (~~(~) 1) mussel, shell, pearl oyster; also pearl; 2) a vessel for oil, unguents &c. Y'lamd. to Num. VIII, 2, quot. in Ar. נחושת של ק׳ ברזל של מנורה an iron candlestick, a bronze bowl. -- Pl. same (conche). Gen. R. s. 60 (expl. מגדנות, Gen. XXIV, 53) ק׳ Ar. (ed. קונבי) pearlsl?); Yalk. ib. 109 קונפי.
קונםm. (vקינומא) konam, asubstitute forקרבן (v.כינוי), used for a vow of abstinence and for the consecration of an object (v. קדש Hif.). Ned. I, 2 וכ׳ קונח ק׳ האומר ir one introduces a vow with the words konam, (onah, konas, such words are substitutes for korban. Ib. 4 if one says to his neighbor, וכ׳ ידי עמך מדבר פי ק׳ konam (for- bidden) be my mouth spesking to thee, my hand work- ing for thee &c., he is bound by his vow. Ib. II, 1 ק׳ וכ׳ ישן שאיני (Bab. ed. 14b שאני) if a man says, k. that I will not sleep . . ., he is subject to the law of יהל לא (Num. XXX, 3). Y. ib. I, 36d bot. [reado] השאילני לו אמר קורדום לזה שאין עלי נכמיי ק׳ לי יש קורדום ק׳ אמר קרדומך אסורין נכסיו קורדום לו ויש if one says to a man, lend me thy axe, and he says, k. be the axe Ihave, g. be my property to me, that this man (I) has no axe, and he has an axe,. his property is forbidden (consecrated); Tosef. ib. קונסה m. (v. קנס) fine. Y. Ned. I, 37a top והא ... דבר שמה ק׳ קונס תנינן if a word has a certain meaning in ordinary language and is also used for indicating korban (consecration), does a man bind himself (when using it to introduce a vow) (Answer) we have it in the Mishnah (I, 2, v. קונם) which makes konas stand for a binding vow, and yet konas has the meaning of (kunsah) fine. 16s c
