קנאי m. (b. h. קנא; preced.) 1) zealous. Snh. 82b ק׳ אוה ׳ק ןב he (Eleazar) is a zealous man, son of a zealous man; Lev. R. s. 33 ׳ק רב ׳ק. -- 2) revengeful. Yalk. Gen. 72, v. ןוינוק. - Pl. םיאנק, ןיאג. Snh. IX, 6 (s1b) וב ןיעגופ ׳קה (השעמ תעשב) Ms. M. (ed. וב ןיעגופ ׳ק; Y. ed. ןהב ןיעגופ, omitting ׳ק) zealous people (Iike Phineas) have a right to strike him (them) when caught in the act; Y. ib. IX, end, 27b; Num. R. s. 20 end. - Esp. the fעealots, the terrorists during the siege of Jerusalem by the Romans. Ab. d'R. N. ch. קנב, Pi. קינב to strip, trim, make even, clean(vegetable). Kel. XVI, 2 בנקיו םוסחישמ when he has peeled them (the wicker baskets) and trimmed them (pinched of the project- ing pricks); ib. 3. Ib. 4 (of leather immlements). Tosef. ib. B. Mets. VII, 11 (not בקניו); 12. Tosef. Dem. IV, 5 בגקל, v. סוגרפסיא. Y. Pes. IV, 31a bot. בנקמ he may clean (vegetable) a. e. - Part. pass. בנוקמ. Tosef. Kel. l. c. ןיכותח ןיבגוקמו cut and cleansed.

קנה, קינה f. =1) =קן nest; 2)(קנן) affirmation, oath, vow. יעבימ םנוקד ןושל . . ןילוגנרת לש ׳ק יאמ ׳ק if a person used the word kinnah tto introduce a vow, how is it? did he mean a nest of chickens (in which case there would be no vow), or has it. the meaning of confirmation like konamm ? It remains doubtful.
קנה m. (b. h.; cmp. קנן) calamus, reed; anything resemmbling a reed, branch of a candlestick; windpipe &c. Cant. R. to I, 6 (egend about the origin of Rome) דרי ׳כו לודג ׳ק.
