קרטיסין, קרטיסיס (not ים .) f. (~~~~~~ג, 8.) 1) dominion, powcrr, possession, esp. (sub. יום) a Homange festivaal coimmemoratihg the conquest of easbern tountries, Ab. Zar. I, 3 (8a) (Mish. Nap. קריטיסים; Y. ed. קרטסים; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 5); ib. 8b; Y. ib. I, 39c; Tosef. ib. I, 4 קרטיסים (Var. קראטיס׳, טוסם . .). 2) royal prohibition. Pesik. Bahod., p. 104b sq. וכ׳ בני ק׳ קבע he issued a pro- hibition, that the Romans must not go down to Syria &c.; ק׳ התיר he cancelled the prohibition; Yalk. Ex. 273 (Ar. בים קרטיסים קבע, corr. acc.).

קרטלא, קרטילא m. (~~~~~~~~, prob. of Semitic origin; cmp. קורטור) a kind of basket. Lev. R. s. 25; Koh. R. to II, 20 (Tanh. K'dosh. 8 סלסלה). קרטלין (2i~~~~) same. Tosef. Sabb.IVV), 5 Var., v. קרסטלין.

קרטם (Parel of קטם) to pluck, lop. Maasr. III, 9 וכ׳ עלה מקרטם he may pluck leaf by leaf and eat (without tithing); Y. ib. 50c; Y. B. Kam. קרטע (Parel of קטע) [to cut; cmp. גוז,] to caper, leap. Gen. R. s. 38 מקרטע ארכיליסטיס Ar. the chief robber (Satan) cuts his capers(ed. מקטרג השטן). Ib. s. 74 מקרטעים בו Var., v. קרקר II. Tanh. Ki Thissa 19 מקרטע כשהוא נוער (read; נראאה) appearing as if it (the golden calf) were leaping, v. רטט. Hull. 75a מקרטע דג (Ms. H. המתקרטע; Ms. R. 1 המקורטע; 2 המטרטע corr. acc.; v. Rabb. D. קרי, קרא (b. h.) 1) to call, name; to invite. Ber. 7b אדון וקראו. . . ששקראו . . . שברא מיום from the day that the Lord created the world there was no man that called the Holy One, blessed be He, lord, until Abraham came and called him lord (Gen. XV, 2 אדני). Gen. R. s. 56 קראו אאברהם יראה Abraham called it (the Temple site) yeraeh (Gen. XXII, 14), שלם אותו ק׳ שם Shem called it Salem (ib. XIV, 18), ירושלם אותו קורא הריני I will call it Jerusalem. Snh. 70b וכ׳ אבא לקרוא ... אין no sooner does a child know to call father and mother', than it tastes grain food. Num. R. s. 15, beg. אוהב אותו ק׳ he invited that friend. XXIX, 2) שלשה אלו ק׳ this is typical of the three persons called up to read from the Torah (priest, Levite, and Israelite). Y. Meg. III, 74b אינון ק׳ שבעה ולא are not seven persons called up (on the Sabbath)?; a. fr. -- V, קרויות. -- 2) to read, recite (esp. from the Scriptures). Yoma I, 6 . . לקרות רגיל אם לפניו קורין if he (the high priest) is accustomed to read (the Scriptures), he reads himself, if not, they read to him; לפניו קורין ובמה and from what books do they read to him?
