קרמית c. קרמית f. (from its color; cmp. קרמולין) cowr-wheat (Melammpyron) of which a coarse bread is made. Tosef. Hall. I, 1 וכ׳ חייבת הק׳ אף (ed. Zuck. קרומית) k. is also subject to the priest's gift; Y. ib. I, beg. 57a; Y. Pes. II, 29b top; Bab. ib. 35a, expl. דמשתכחא שיצניתא וכ׳ a weed found among Papaver Spinosum. Tosef. ib. I (II), 29 וכ׳ יוצא הק׳ אף one may comply with the duty of eating matsah (on the first night of Passover) by eat- ing bread made of k. -- V. קורמי.
קרמנאי m. pl. Carmanians, inhabitants of Car- mania, a province of the ancient Persian empire, with the capital Oarmana; [oth. opin. (from קרמא) seilers of linen garments; cmp., however, meanings of טרסי I, II]. Sabb. 138a בדק׳ Ms. O. a. Ar. (ed. כדק׳; Ms. M. בדקמינאי) it refers to a folding bed or frame (ike tthat) used by the Carmanians (to exhibit their wares). Naz. 31b תורא דקרמנאי an ox of the Carmanians (good for ploughing); b. דקרמינ. -- B. Kam. 21a וכ׳ ק׳ מעיקרא originally Car-. manians had been living on the abandoned property belonging to the orphans, and had been paying a nominal rent; [Ms. M. קדמאי, Ms. R. a. vers. in Raschi קדמונאי old settlers or nomads g= קדם בני].
