רחב (b. h.) to be wide. Hif. הרחיב 1) (neut. verb) to widen, be broader; to extend. Lev. R. s. 31 וכ׳ ומרחיבות . . מקטינות היו (he wwindows of the'emple) became narrow towards the inside and wider towards the outside, in order to send light forth to the world; Pesik. Kumi, p. 145a, sq. Sifre Deut. s. 1; Yalk. Zech. 575 מרחבת, v. infra. Yalk. Is. 302, v. פתה. -- 2) to broaden, widen; (with דעת) to comfort, gratify. IV, 7 וכ׳ מלפניו ור׳ . . . צר ארי מה (not ורוחב) as the liion's body is narrow behind and wide in front, so was the Temple &c.; a. fr. -- ר׳ נפש (wide desire,) ambition, greed, opp. שפלהה. Ab. דחב ch. same, esp. (with or sub. נפשא) ambitious, greedy. Targ. Prov. XXVIII, 25 ר׳ גברא (Bxt. נפשא ר׳; Ms. רעיינא, read; עיינא רחב or רעיינא רחב).
רחב, רוחב m. (b. h.; preced. wds.) width. Midd. II, 6 וכ׳ ו׳ על . . אורך one hundred and ttwenty-five cubits in length by eleven in width. Ib. IV, 1 וכ׳ ורחבו and its width was ten cubits. Tam. 29b; Shek. VIII, 5 ורחבה; a. fr. - Sifre Deut. 120 יד בר׳ with liberality.

רחבה f 1) fem. ofיחב. -2) open place, market. Keth. sb ר׳ ברכת, v. ברכה. Y. Ned. V, end, 39b; Tosef. ibb. I, 9 ו׳ מפסקתה הרבים שדרך a market which is crossed by a. public (caravan) road.
רחוב m. (b. h.) same. Taan. II, 1 (15a) . . . מוציאין עיר של לרחובה (not לרחוב) (at public fasts) they carry the ark out to the open place of the town. Meg. III, 1 (2) וכ׳ רחובה . . . בני if the citizens sold the opeh plaפפ of a town (which is used for public prayer meetings), they may buy a synagogue with the proceeds. Ib. בהוכ הר׳ את . . . if they sold a synagogue, they dare not buy an open place; a. e.

רחוק a,., רחוקה f. (b. h.; רחק) distant, removed. Snh. VI, 2 וכ׳ מבית ר׳ היה when the culprit arrived at a distance of about ten cubits from the place of execution. Ib. 3. Pes. IX, 1ר בדרך או . מי he who (on the fourteenth day of Nisan) was unclean or on a distant journey (Num. IX, 10). Ib. 2 וכ׳ ודאי שרחוקה מפני . . לפיכך (Bab. ed. 93b רחוק) therefore is the He (of רחוקה, Num.l. c.) dotted, not that it necessarily be distant (that he be really far away), but that he be outside of the Temple court (and unable to enter in time); Y. ib. 36d ואין ר׳ איש . . ה'א ר׳ דרך the He is dotted to intimate that the man is at. a distance (רחוק), not that the way be far; a. fr. -שמועה־ ר׳, v. שמועה. -- Pl. רחוקים, רחוקין; רחוקות.
