רפסא, רי׳ f. (preced.) 1)stamping. Targ. Ez. XXVI, 10 דפסת constr. (h. text שפעת). - 2) shaking. B. Mets. 79k ד׳ דספינתא Ms. M. (ed. רפסתא, or רפשתא, p) the injury done to the ship by the shaking (attendant upon unloading and loading). -*3) a place for treading, press. Erub. 40b אאמר בדועתיה לי ו׳ רטיבאs דליוה ליה Ar. (Ms. Mm. דפסא; ed. וכ׳ ליה ר׳ דלויה, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) he said, carry the green date, I have a press on the spot, i. e. you came to find out my opinion, you will soon have an opportunity to learn it (differ. in comment.).

דפף (b. h. רופף; cmp. דפא, דפה) to be loose, to vibrate, vacillate. Lev. R. s. 14, end ורופף הולך . . . שנתון לחלב like milk put into a dish, when you put m'so (מסו) into it, it curdles and stands; if not, it will constantly vibrate; Yalk. Job 9o ומרפרף; Gen. R. s. 14 רופף החלב; Yalk. Lev. 547; Gen. R. s. 4, end מרפף הוא (prob. to be read; מרופם). Tosef. Hull. Hull. 38b בפו אלא ר׳ לא אפי׳ (Ms. R. 1, 2 בבפ) even if the bird only flaps a wing (Var. in Ar. בעינו blinks with its eye, v. supra). Gen. R. s. 2 (ret. to Gen. I, 2) וכ׳ מרפרף שהוא הזה כעוף like a bird that flaps its wings (over its brood), and its wings touch and yet do not touch (v. ריחוף). -- 2) to futter, be vaciltating in mind. Ib. s. 20 מרופרף קרבן . . . שרפרפה לפי because she (at the time of travailing) wavered in her heart (ost faith; Rashi'; made a half-hearted vow never tto have marital intercourse again), therefore she must bring א futtering sacrifice (a bird).
