רשענית f. (preced. wds.) guilty woman, idolatress. - Pl. ישעניות. Snh. 112a Rashi a. Ms. K. (v. Rabb. D. S. a.l. note 2; ed. רשעיות, corr. acc.), opp. צדקניות.
רשף m. (b. h.; רשף to blow, glow; cmp. פח, a. פחם) 1) glomw, flaame, spark. Ber. 5a (ref. to Job V, 7) אלא ר׳ אין מזיקין reshef means demons (of the hot season, v. קטב); ib. יסורין אלא ר׳ אין reshef means (burning) pains; Yalk. Job 89s. -- Pl. רשפים. Midr. Till. to Ps. II ובררקים ר׳ וכמה וכ׳ and how many flames, lightnings, and torches have Il; a. e. -- 2) bird. -- Pl. as ab. Ex. R. s. 12 (ref.tto Ps. LXXVIII, 48) העופות אלו ר׳ mw'shafim means birds of prey (by ref. to Job l. c); Midr. Till. to Ps. l. c.
דשפא, די׳ ch. same, 1) spark, lightning. - Pl. רשפין, רי׳. Targ. Ps. LXXVIII, 48. - 2) pl. רשפי, רי׳ name of certain demons (v. preced.). , Pes. 111 b ר׳ איגרי דבי the name of the demons dwelling on roofs is rishpe; (Ar. ר׳ נגרו דבי of the demons dwelling in smithies).
דשק, רשקא, רי׳ m. spikenard. Targ. Cant. IV, 14. -ר׳־ כורכמא garden crocus, v. כורכמא. Sabb. 110a. B. Bath. 16b (expl. הפוך, Job XLII, 14) וכ׳ דר׳ ככ׳ as garden crocus is the best of its ikind (of eye-paint); Yalk. Job end וכ׳ ר׳ כ׳ כוחלא כי as the eye-paint kurk'ma rishka, as itt is written (Jer. IV, 30) &c. -- Pl. רשקין, די׳. Targ. Cant. IV, 13 (ed. Vien. ר׳).
רשש (b. h.), Pol. רושש to stamp, crush. Hithpol. התרושש to be stamped upon, be crushed. Midr. Prov. ch. XXII מתרושש שהוא רש the poor man is called rsh, because he is crushed (cmp. דכך).
רששות, v. רשת II.
דששין m. pl. (preced. art.) clods of fresh-broken ground, which need crushing. Nidd. 8b virgin ground is וכ׳ ו׳ שמעלה כל Ar. (ed. רשושין) which turns up clods (when it is broken) &c.; Tosef. Ohol. XVI, 5 Var. שאין כל רשישים בו (corr. acc.), v. תיחוח.

*רתוי ,,, רתו) m. (רתה) relief, mercy, pity. Hag. II, 1 (11b) לעולם בא שלא לו ד׳ (Ms. M., a. Var. in Ar. ראוי) it wonld have been a mercy to him not to have been born; (Y. ed. לעולם בא לא ילוsכא לו ר׳ a pity for him he is as though he had not been born; Mish. ed. לו ראוי וכ׳ לא כאילו he is looked upon as though &c.).
רתות, v. ריתות.
דתה (b. h.; cmp. רתע) to bubble, boil, be hot. - Part. רותה;f. רותחת;pl. רותתיסס, רותחין; רותחות. [Tradit. pronunc. רותח adj.] Y. Sot. IX, 24a ר׳ חלב milk fresh from the goat. Y. Pes. VII, beg. 34a ומרתיח ר׳ הוא והרי but is not the iron spit hot and does is not impart heat (to the lamb on it)? Bab.iib.76a ר׳ סולת heated flour. Ib. 94b וכ׳ ׳ כולו העולם כל (in the summer) the whole wold is hot, and the springs are cold; ר׳ מעיינות . . כל (in the winter) the whole world is cold, and tthe springs are hot; a. fr. - Esp. רותחין hof water. Snh. 108b; R. Hash. 12a, v. קלקל. Y. Ber. II, 5b bol., v. כוה. Deut. R. s. 3 וכ׳ ר׳ נותן אותי כשתראה when thou seest me put hot water (to the wine), put thou cold wwater in &c., i. e. when I am angry, appease thou me &c.; a. fr. Hif. הרתיח 1) to cause bubbling, foaming. B. Mets. 61b ירתיח שלא ובמשורה and in liouid measure (Lev. XIX, 35) one is warned that one must not make the liquid foam; B. Bath. 89b; Tosef.iib. V, 5 להקפיצה ולא . להרתיח לא. .. אאין (Var. להרתיע) the storekeeper is not permitted to make the liquid bubble in the measure, or to make it bound. -- 2) to heat. Tosef. רתח ch. same, to boil, be hot. - Part. pass. דתי; pl. רתיחין. Targ. Y. I Gen. L, 1 דתי׳ חמרין (some ed. דתחין). Targ. Job XXIV, 24 Ms. -- Y. Pes. III, 30a top ירתהן דלא ויחמען that they may not get hot and ferment. Ber. 62b וכ׳ דרתחא עד, v. קדדא; a. e. - רתחין hot water. Ex. R. s. 45 ו׳ מזגין (not רתחים), v. מזג; Midr. Till. to Ps.
