קתדרא, קתדרה, קתיד׳ t. (r~0~~pא) a soft seat, chair with back. Keth. V, 5 בק׳ יושבת ארבע (not ארבעה) if the wife brought four maids, she may sit in the chair (need not do any house work). Ib. 61a. Kel. IV, 3 ק׳ כמין (Mish. ed. רה . . .) in the shape of a cathedra (with a curved or hollow back). Ib. XXIV, 2 כק העשויה a wagon seat formed like a cathedra. Lam.R. to I, 1רבתי) לו מציעין .. . מקום בכל ק׳ wherever one of the sons of Jerusalem came to a. country place, they spread for him a cathedra to sit on it, in order to hear his wisdom. Pesik. קתוליקוס, קתלי׳ m. (~~~o~~~) financial officer. controller, esp. catholicos, an officer of the Temple treas- ury. Ex. R. s. 37, beg. וכ׳ ומנהו ק׳ . . . למלך like a king
Resh, the twentieth letter of the alphabet. It inter- changes with ל, v. ל; with ד, e. g. גיי a. גרד, צרד a. צרר. -- It is frequently inserted between the first and the second radical letters, forming Parel verbs or nouns, e g. גדבל, קרסם, שרביט. It is sometimes a formative letter added at the end, e. g. חליטר, קנטר. -ר־ dropped at the end, e. g. אמיws אמ. that had a friend, and when he wanted to appoint a. controller, he appointed him over his entire treasury; Y'lamd. to Gen. XLIX, 1 quot. in Ar. קתוליכוס (corr. acc.). Num. R. s. 18 וכ׳ ק׳ שהיה קרח Korah who was the con- troller of Pharaoh's palace and had in charge the keys &c. Y. Shek. V, 49a קתיליקוס, קתיליקון, קתיליקים (Bab. ed. קתליקין, קתליקין; corr. acc.); a. e. - Pl. קתוליקין. Ib. אאין ק׳ משני פיחתין (Bab. ed. a. ed. *קתר m., pl קתרין (cmp. קשר) hard, rocky sub- stances, bowlders. Y'lamd. to Lev. XXVI, 3 quot. in Ar. (ref. to Lev. XXVI, 4, a. 19) [read:] ואין יבולה הארן ונתנה מתקנת הארץ הרי כנחושה ארצכם ואת ק׳ לכם מתקנת הארץ ק׳ לכם and the land shall yield its increase', and the land shall not generate bowlders for you, and your earth as brass', behold, the land shall generate bowlders for you; [Landau; thorns and thistles, v.
