שדר I (Shaf. of דור, דרר; cmp. שגר; Assyr. שדר to order); Pa. שדר 1) to send. Targ. Gen. XXXVIII, 20; 23. Targ. שדר II (preced.; cmp. שזר) to turn around, twist. Pa. שדר to wredtle. Targ. Y.II Gen. XXXII, 26 בשדרותיה (verbal noun), v. שדל. thpa. אשתדר, Ithpe. אשתדו, 1) same, esp. to rebel, v. אשתדור. -- 2) (trnsf) to rise, grow stif. Nidd. 48b אשתדרו דדיך Ar. thy breasts grew stiff (Var. in Ar. אשתררו, v. שרר; ed. אישתדו, v. שדי), v. רף.

שדרא, שי׳, שו׳ m. = h. שדרה, 1) twisted rope. Gitt. 69a, v. ברקא II. - 2) spinal column. B. Bath. 103a . הנהו מיקרי דארעא ש׳ הנהו (Rashi שידרי, pl.) are they named etlefts of the feld'? they are named the spine of the field'; Arakh. 25a שידרי; Kidd. 61a; Yalk. שדרגזין, שדרגנין (a corrupt. of ~~~~~ut) sar- donyx, a jewel in the high priest's breast-plate. Ex. R.s. 38, end (for h. אדם, v. LXX Ex. XXVIII, 17, a~pcaos; Mus. שדרנגין).
שדרה, שי׳ f. (v. מדר II) [twisted cord,] 1) spinal column. Hull. III, 2 וכ׳ ולא הש׳ נשברה iff the spinal column is broken, but its cord is not severed. Ib. I. Gen. R. s. 28, beg., a.e. ש של לוז, v. לו II. Sabb. 147b ש׳ חומרי Rashi (ed. שדרא) the knots of the pinetvertebrme). Ohol.I,8, v..חוליא I; a. fr. -- B. Kam. 16a אדם של שדרו a mam's spine. R. s. 30 וכ׳ לש׳ דומה לולב של הש׳ the rib of the palm-branch resembles the spinal column of man. Ikts. I, 2 שבולת של הש׳ the stem of an ear (of wheat). שה m. (b. h.) lamb, youno goat or young sheep. Bekh. I, 5 שה שהוא מפני בכלאים מתיר א׳ ר׳ R. El. permits the redemption of a first-born ass with a hybrid of goat and sheep, because it goes by the name of seh (complylng with the law Ex. XIII, 13). Gen. R. s. 56 (ref. to Gen. XXII, 8) לעולה השה אתה לאו ואם בני השה לו יראה אלהים בני God will provide himself a lamb, my son, and if not, tthou art the lamb for the offering, my son; Pesik. R. s. 40 בני לעולה שה לא ואם קרבנו יזמן he will prepare his sacri- fice, and if not, my son be the lamb for the ofering. Ib. יונית לשון לעולה סי לעולה שה (not חי) sseh for an offering' is the Greek ae (thee) for an offering. Bekh. 12a שה אביו its sire is a sheep. שהוא f. (שהי) wasteness, ruin. - Pl. שהוותא, שהותא. Targ. Ps. LXXIII, 18 (Ms. שחוותא; h. text משואות).
שהות f. (שהה) while, time. Y. Ber. I, 2d top; Gen. R. s. 12 ש׳ ידי על in the course of time. Mel. 6a (in Chald. dict.) למזרקיה ש׳ הוה דלא he had not had the time to sprinkle it; (ib. שעות). Y. Maasr. III, 50db bot. ש׳ לו נותנין וכ׳ כדי we allow him an interval of time for cracking &c. Ib. שנייה ש׳ כדי בתוך within the interval allowed for the second act Y. Sabb. IV, end, 7a לש׳ באן לשעה כאן in the one case it means (chafing) for a while, in the other for some time. R. Hash. 30b וכ׳ ביום ש׳ שיהא כי that there be time left during the day to offer &c. Y. Hor. I, 46a top וכ׳ ביניהון וש׳ and the difference between them is the word time; R. M. says וכ׳ ש׳ לו נותנין we allow him time &c., v. שמע; a. fr.
שהי, שהה, שהא (b. h. שאה) 1) to stand still, pause; to dwel, tarry. Shebu. II, 3 השתחוואה בכדי שש׳ אאו or if the unclean person stayed in theemple long enough for prostration. Ib. 17a (mixed dict.) ש׳ בדלא when he did not stand still (but walked constantly though slowly). Yeb. VI, 7 וכ׳ עמה וש׳ אשה נשא if one married a woman and lived with her ten years without issue.
