שין m. (b. h.) urine. - Pl. שינים. Treat. Sof'rim IX, 8 (ref. to II Kings XVIII, 27 a. Is. XXXVI, 12) שיניהם כתיב וכ׳ it is written shenehem, and it is read meme raglehem (the water of their feet); Meg. 25b שניהם.

שינה, שנה f. (b. h.; ישן) sleep. Ber. 3b לא מעולם בש׳. . . עבר midnight never found me asleep. Ib. 62b ש׳ וכ׳ בעמוד sleep at morning dawn (v. שינא I). Meg. 15b וכ׳ שנת, v. נדד. שינוי, שנ׳ m. (שנה) change. Gen. R. s. 44 השם ש׳ change of name; מקום ש׳ change of residence. Sabb. 114a top בגדים ש׳ change of dress (for the Sabbath, for prayer &c.). Keth. 110b, a. e. וסת ש׳, v. וסת; a. fr. -- Esp. (law) change of form (and name) effected on an illegiti- mately obtained object, by which the present possessor is privileged to retain the object and pay its value. B. Kam. 65b וקנאו בידו ש׳ נעשה the change (from calf to ox) happened while the animal was in his possession, and he has obtained ownership. Ib. השם בש׳ וניקנינהו may he not have obtained the ownership of it through the change of name? Ib. 93b דרבנן ש׳ a change which gives the right of ownership by rabbinical ordinance, i. e. ששש לברייתו החוזר (ib. 67a) a change (of name) which can be undone by restoring the object to its original condition; דאורייתא ש׳ a change which gives the right of ownership by Biblical law, i. e. a change which cannot be undone; a. fr. - Men. 43a אמת ש׳ שקר ש׳ וסימנך and the mnemonical word (to remember which change proves the color to be genuine (תכלת), and which proves it to be adulterated) is 'a false change' (one who changes his word for evil is a bad man), 'a true change (one who changes his word to do better than he has promised). -- Sifra Vayikra, Hob., ch. שינויא, שנ׳ ch. 1) change, strangeness. Targ. Is. XXVIII, 11. - 2) ansawer, reply, solution. Sabb. 3b דמשני הוא ש׳ דלאו ש׳ לך he might give thee an answer which is no answer. Keth. 98b הוא ש׳ דשנינן ש׳ the solution which we have offered is the real solution; Pes. 12b; a. e. -- Pl. שיעויי, ש׳. Nidd. 26a ש׳ להני איתנהו ומי have these replies any reality , i. e. these fictitious cases can. never occur. Yeb. 91b; B. Bath. 135a ונסמוך ניקום ואש׳ can we stand and lean on harmoniing arguments (for legal decisions)?
שינון, שנ׳ m. (שנן) diligent teaching, memorizing. Sifre Deut. 34 (ref. to Deut. VI, 7) וכ׳ בש׳ אלו these words must be memorized (by the children), but the pasages (EEx. XIII, 1-- 10; 11 - 16) need not be memorizzed; ib. אאינו בש׳ שיהו דין is it not a logical conclusion that they must be memorized?; Yalk. ib. 84 .
