III, 8. - Ber. I, 1 מאימתי וכ׳ ש׳ את קורין from what time of the day may we read the Sh'm a of the evening prayer? Ib. II, 2 (13a) קדמה למה וכ׳ ש׳ (פרשת) why does the reading of the section ofSht'm a. (Deut. VI, 489) precede tthat of v'hayah (ib. XI, 134421)? שמע m. (b. h.; שמע) 1) report, fame. Deut. R. s. 1, end וכ׳ שמעכם שומעים . . . היו the nations heard of your fame and were afraid; a. e. -- 2) tע משמע understanding, meaning. Sifre Num. 142 (reff. to Num. XXVIII, 3) כשמעו וכ׳ (trad. pronunc. כשמעו) according to its literal mean- ing, two each day.
