שפשף m. (v. שוף II) paste, a small board on the hunter's rod smeared over with glue. Sabb. VIII, 4(78b) הש׳ בדאש ליתן כדי דבק Bab. ed. (Mish. a. Y. ed. הששבשבת); expl. ib. 80a וכ׳ קנה שבדאש ש׳ בראש ליתן כדי (Ms. M. a. O. שבשבת; Alf. Ms. שפשפת; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 3) as much glue as is required to put on the top of the 'paste board' which is on the fowlerg' reed.

שפת (b. h.) to place, pile, esp. to place the cooking vessel over or by the fire. Y. Sabb. I, end, 4b את השופת וכ׳ הקדירה if one sets a pot over coals (on the Sabbath), we must warn him &c. Bets. IV, 5 וכ׳ לשסות to place a. pot on them, v. נקף I. Hull. 84a וכ׳ ישפתו מנה מאה iff one possesses one hundred Maneh, he may have a pot put on the stove every day. שפתים m. du. (b. h.; שפת, cmp. אשפת) border- mounds (between which is the balk). Sot. 11b ונזקקות ש׳ בין להן and they had intercourse with them between the mounds in the field; Ex. R. s. 1. Yalk. Zech. 574 (ref. to Ps. LXVIII, 14) הירדן ועבר יהודה ש׳ בין תשכבון you shall ie (in peace) between the borders; Iudah and the shore of the Jordan.

שק m. (b. h.) sack, sackcloth. Sifra Sh'mini, Par. 6, ch. VIII (ref. to Lev. XI, 32) וכ׳ מיוחד שק מה as sack, which is specified, is something spun and woven &c.; Sabb. 64a. Sifra l. c. וכ׳ העשוי שק אלא לי אין I may think that only sackcloth made of goats hair is meant. Succ. 20b; Tosef. Kel. B. Bath. IV, 14 שק של a mat made of sackcloth. שקא = שקע to sink, break down. Kidd. 81b ומית ש׳ he sank and died (feigned a sinking spell and death). Lev. R. s. 17 ביתא ש׳ some ed., v. שקע.
שקד (b. h. Nif.; cmp. next w.) to bend, twist, plait.- Part. pass. שקוד; . שקודה (cmp. שבשתא) confused, mistaken. Lam. R. to I, 14 (ref. to נשקד, ib.] הייתי ש׳ וכ׳׳ מעונותי I was in error as to my sins, I thought that he would forgive me all my sins, when I heard that my verdict was torn up.
