תבה, תיבה (b. h. חבה; Egyptian; v., however, תבא) 1) ship, ark, chest. Gen. R. s. 31 (play on קנים, Gen. VI, 14) וכ׳ חיבתך אף . . . הקן מה as birds (v. קן) make the leper clean, so does thy ark cleanse thee. Ib. של תיבתו שם על נח (it is called tbikin) from the measures of Noah's ark. Y. Erub. V, 22a bot. כת׳ . . ישראל היו כיצד how did the Israelites march in the desert? . . like a chest (forming a square), opp. כקורה like a beam (in columns). Men. 94b פדוצה ת׳r כמין (the shape of the show-bread was) that of an open chest (without a lid and with a level bottom), opp. רוקדת ספינה כמין like a rocking ship (with a curved bottom). Sifra M'tsorr'a, Zab., Par. 1, ch. II הבלנים חיבת the bathers chest. Tosef. Kel. B. Mets. X, 1, sq.; a. fr. -- Pl. חבות, תי׳. Midr. Till. to Ps. I הרבה ת׳ לעשה צריך היה he would have been obliged to build many arks. Y. Sot. VIII, beg. 22b ת׳ ח׳ עשויין שהיו they (the Egyptians) were arrayed in squares. -- Esp. the chest in the synagogdאe co. taining the scrolls of the Pentateuch. Sot. 38b, v. פסק. Taan. II, 1 וכ׳ הת׳ את מוציאין (at prayer meetings) they bring the chest out to the open place of the town, and put ashes of wood on the chest &c. Meg. III, 1 כbבה . העיר בני וכ׳ ח׳ ח׳ לוקחין if the citizens of a township sell . . . as. synagogue, they may buy (for the money) a book chest; if they sell a chest, they may buy book wrappers; a. fr. -- הת׳ לפני עבר, הת׳ לפני ירד to go before the chest, to act as reader of pragers. Ber. 34a וכ׳ הת׳ לפני שירד who recited the prayers in the presence of &c. Ib. V, 3 העובר וכ׳ וטעה הת׳ לפני if a reader makes a mistake (reads he- retical formulas), another person must pass before the chest in his place. Ib. 4. Ib. 34a לסרב צריך הת׳ לפני העובר he that is asked to read the prayers &c., v. סרב. Taan. II, 2 וכ׳ הת׳ לפני מורידין we depute as reader (on fast days) an old man &c.; a. v. fr. - 2) word. Men. 30b בת ת׳ וכ׳ שתי a word of two letters. Sabb. 104a they did not know וכ׳ ת׳ באמצע הי which (of the two forms of the letters מנצפוך) were to be employed in the middle of a. word, and which at the end; a. fr. -- Pl. תיבות, תיביות. תבואה f. (b. h.; בוא) [that which is brought in,] grain, provision. Ned. 55a, v. עלל I. Ib. וכ׳ ותבואת לחוד תבואה tbuah is one thing (refers only to the five kinds of grain), and tbuath sadeh is another thing (refers to all in-- gatherings of the field). Peah VI, 9 וכ׳ עקורה ת׳ סאה a. S'ah of plucked grain (forgotten in the field), and one of unplucked (standing) grain. Ib. 10 לשחת שנתנה ח׳ grain cut for fodder (v. שחת II). B. Mets. 59a וכ׳ בת׳ . . . לעולם a man should always take care to have grain in his house, ת׳ עסקי על . מריבה שאין for no strife is more frequent in the house than that about grain. Men. 103b ת׳ הלוקח וכ׳ משנה he who buys grain from year to year; (Y. Sabh. VIII, 11a bot. חטים). Tem. 16a וכ׳ ת׳ לה שאין כיון אאשה when a woman has no provision in the house, she clamors at once; a. fr.
תבונה f. (b. h.; בון) understanding. Ber. 17a לבך ת׳ יהגה may thy heart reason with understanding. Ib. 19b וכ׳ ת׳ ואין חכמה אין 'there is no wisdom, or understand- ing, or counsel against the Lord' (Prov. XXI, 30), i. e. worldly considerations may have no weight when the law of God is to be observed; Erub. 63a; a. e.
תבוסה f. (בוס, v. Ez. XVI, 22) 1) weltering; ת׳ דם the blood fllowing outt of a dying body, which is partly live blood (levitically clean) and partly dead blood (levitically unclean), mixed blood. Ohol. II, 2 דם ורביעית דם רביעית ת׳ one fourth (of a Log) of blood (of a dead body), and one fourth of mixed blood (make unclean). Ib. III, 5 וכ׳ המת ת׳ דם איזהו what is dam t'busah? The blood of a dead body of which one eighth (of a Log) flowed out while it was yet alive, and one eighth after death; ib. וכ׳ צלוב ח׳ דם איזהו what is dam tbusah? The blood of an impaled body which fowed uninterruptedly (v. שתת) &c. Tosef. Meg. I, 10 וכ׳ ת׳ לדם המת דם בין אין there is no legal difference between the blood of a dead man and that of a dying man, except &c.; Tosef. Ohol. IV, 12; a. e. --- 2) pressing, the ground which is pressed by a body n the grave, and which is considered the dead man's pro- perty. Naz. IX, 3 (64b) חבוסתו ואת נוטלו . . . המוצא (Bab. ed. תפוסתו; Y. ed. תפוש׳) if one finds in his field a body in the usual position of a buried man, the first time, he may remove it with the ground which it occupies (for burial in another pace); תבוסתן ואת . . שנים מצא (Bab. ed. תפוס׳; Y. ed. תפוש׳) if he finds two, he may still re- move them and their ground; Ohol. XVI, 8 תב׳; B. Bath. 10tb sq. תב׳ Ms. H. a. Ar. (ed. תפ׳); Y. ib. V, beg. 15a, expl. וכ׳ שלש עד up to three fingers lengths of the ground, as far as the serial secretion penetrates. Nag. 65a ח׳ לו אאין has no right of t'busah (t'fusah), i. e. the ground does not belong to the body. Ib. ת׳ שיעור וכמה how large is the quantity of the dead man's ground?; a. e.

תביעה f. (תבע) asking, summons. Shebu. 41b בשעת ת׳ at the time when the creditor asks for payment. Keth. g7b ח׳ משעח from the time he summons her, or she sttum- mons him to make ready for the wedding. Tosef. ib. V, 1, v. בגר; Y. ib. V, 29a בשעה (read; בת׳, or ת׳ בשעת).
*תביקין f. (~~3~~ו, accus., sub ~ט)ו) Thebaic cubitt (supposed to be the royal cubit of the Egyptians). Gen. R. s. 31 (ref. to הראשונה מדה, II Chr. III, 3) הוא למה וכ׳ ח׳ אמה אותה קורא (Ar..תבקיון) why is this cubit called tbikin? Because they fitted with it (v. תבא); (oth. opin.) וכ׳ תיבתו שם על after Noah's ark (ebah); Yalk. ib. 53.
