תתועבה f. (b. h.; יעב, Barth Et. St. p. 23; cmp., however, עבבית, עוית) that which is repulsive, abomination. Ber. 23a ת׳ תפלתו (fr. Prov. XXVIII, 9) his prayer is an abomin- ation (unacceptable). Lev. R. s. 27 (ref. to Is. XLI, 24) וכ׳ הת׳ מאותה . . בה שכתוב ת׳ אותה that abomination of which it is said (Ex. XXXII, 8) they have made them- selves a molten imagge -of that abomination (that class of animals) bring ye an ofering &c.; Tanh. Emor 11. Nidd. 70a; Yeb. 11b (ref. to Deut. תוף m. (b. h. תף; תפף to knock) timbrel. Gen. R. s. 23, v. בע;a. e. -Pl. תופים. Pirke d'R. El. ch. XLII;Yalk. Ex. 253 (ref. to Ex. XV, 20) וכ׳ ומחולות ת׳. . . מנין וכי whence did the Israelites get timbrels and dancing choruses in the desert? ומחולות ת׳ להם והתקינו . . . שהצדיקים אלא but the righteous were trustful and knew that God would perform miracles and mighty deeds for them at the going forth from Egypt, so they prepared for themselves timbrels and choruses. תופיני m. pl. constr. (b. h. תפיני; אפה) a sort of pastry (Talm. חביתים). Men. 50b (expl. תפיני, Lev. VI, 14) נאה אפינה they shall be baked so as to liook nice (i. e. well baked and then fried, v. טיגן); (oth. opin.) תאפינה נא they shall be baked when half done (v. נא II, i e. fried and then baked); (oth. opin.) רבה תאפינה they shall be baked several times; (Var. רכה sott, with an admixture of oil; v. Rabb. D. S. a.l. note 60); Y. Shek. VII, 50a חואפינה נא (read; תיא׳); רכה תופנה soft pastry; נויי תופנה a nice- looking pastry; Yalk. Lev. 488 נא תופי (read נא תופינא); רעה תופינא, נוי תופינא. Y. תוקף, תקף m. (b. h.; תקף) strength, power. Mekh. B'shall., s. 6 (ref. to Ex. XIV, 25) תקפו אלא איתנו אין ethans means its strength. Meg. 19a (ref.tto EEsth.IX, 29) של תקפו אחשורוש the whole strength refers to the power of Ahas- verus (as described in the first chapters of Esthep); תוקפו מרדכי של to the power of Mordecai (beginning with II, 5); המן של תוקפו to Haman's power (beginning with III, 1); נס של תקפו the strength of the wonderful salvationbegin- ning with VI, 1). Gen. RR. s. 16, beg. (ref. to Job XIV, 20) ת׳ וכ׳ הקבה שנתן the power which God gave.Adam was to be for ever. Ib. s. 100 וכ׳ אבל של תקפו כל the height of mourn- ing is on the third day (after burial); Y. M. Kat.
