ותרי m. pl. (נתר) droppings, wool that is shed when sheep are washed. B. Mets. 68b (Ms. R. 2 תירתי, Ms. Alf. תותי, corr. acc.; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 5). תותרי m. pl. (= תרתרי; חרי III; cmp. שרשרת) coup- lings, animals tted together two by two. Sabb. 53b, v. לבב.
תותרנית f. (= תרתרנית, reduplic. of תור) [one in the habit of espying, sniffing ike a dog,] one whose sense of smel is defective. B. Batb. 146a they told a man ת׳ אשתו וכ׳ היא (Ar. תתר׳; Ms. H. תתרנאית) that his (intended) wwife was a sniffer'; he went after her . .. to test her &c.
חזזית f. (זו) shaking, perturbation (v. P. Sm. 44I6 s. v. ת) ת׳ רוח demon ofrestlessness, epilepsy, madness. Pesik. Par., p. 440a, sq.; Pesik. R. s. 14; Num. R. s. 19; Tanh. Huck. 8 ח׳ (corr acc.); ed. Bub. 26. Y. Yoma VIII, 45b top עליו עולה ח׳ רוח (corr. acc.) the demon teoeith enters into him (the mad dog). Gen. R. s. 12 וכ׳ רוח(של)ת׳ . . הקביה God causes the demon taeith to enter into her (the hind), and she knocks &c. (v. קרקש); Yalk. Ps. 862; Midr. Sam. ch. IX תאות ריח (corr. acc.); a. e.
תזקיטא, a corrupt. ofטקזיוא m. (~~~~~~~) sergeant, commissary. Koh. R. to VII, 26 [read;] בתריהון ת׳ ותקף, v. ליסטאה.
תחב (Ar. תהב) (v. חבא) [to hide,] to insert, stick, dip. Y. Kil. I, 27b bot. וכ׳ בשפוד תוחב he may stick up (the fruits in the store room) with a spit or a knife, and take them out; Y. Sabb. III, 5a bot. Ib. XVII, 16b top בו לתחוב to stick something on it. Bab. ibb. 123a חוחבין, v. ערכר. Yoma 82a, v. כוש I. Kil. I, 8 וכ׳ זמורה תוחבין אין you must not stick tthe shoot of a vine into a mmelon (on the tree) that the latter may throw its juice into it. Tosef. Hag. III, 12 וכ׳ בכוש תוחב he picks the cake up with a. reed or a chip; Y. ib. III, 79b בשפוד . .. תוחף (not משפוד); a. fr. - Part. pass. תחוב; f תחובה &c. Yeb. 116b ת׳ . . כזית וכ׳ בקרקעית a piece of a corpse of the size of an olive stuck (hidden) in the bottom of the ship. Ohol. XVI, 2 בכותל ח׳ stuck in the wall. Ib. I, 3. Mikv. X, 8 שהוא ןaח באדם ח׳ an arrow sticking in a human body. Ohol. III, 4 אדם בידי תחובים היו if they were stuck in by human hands; a. e. --V. תחוב.
תחבולה f (b. h.; חבל); pl. תחבולות 1) band, council, esp. commpany of intriguers. Ab. Zar. 18b (ref. to ובמושב וכ׳ לצים, Ps. I, 1) בת׳ ישב שלא who never sat in bad com- pany; Yalk. Ps. 613. -- [2) (v. חבילה) bundles. Snh. 42a (ref. to וכ׳ בתחבלות, Prov. XXIV, 6) חבילות . . . מוצא אתה במי משנה של חבילות Ms. M. with whom wilt thou find the fight for the Law? With him in whose hand are bundles of laws of the Mishnah. Lev. R. s. 21 (ref. to Prov. l. c.) וכ׳ עבירות של חבילות עשית אם if thou hast done bundles of sins, undo them by bundles of good deeds. -- 3) (cmp. החבל דב, Jon. I, 6) steering. Ib., a. e. בקברניטא קריא פתו referred that verse (Prov. l. c.) to a ship captain.]
תחוב m. (תחב) a shoot used for inoculation. - Pl. תחובין. Toset. Shebi. I, 9 וכ׳ בתאינה ת׳ תולין אין (Var. ed. Zuck. תחומין, some ed. תחומן, corr. acc.) (in the Sabbatical year) you must not hang shoots on a fig tree, nor in- oculate &c.; Y. ib. IV, 35b bot. וכ׳ תוכין תולין אין (corr. acc.), expl. ib. וכ׳ יחור מייתי one gets a shoot of a fig tree, slaps (the barren tree), and suspends it on it, and. says, this one bears, and thou dost not.
תחוותא f. name of a bird. Hull. 63a וקרו .. במערבא ת׳ לה(Ms. R. 2 חתותא להו וקרו pl., v. Rabb. D. S.a. l. note 10) in the west (Palestine) they punish for eating it (them) (the קקואתא), and tthey call it thavta (call them tahvatha).
תחוח, v. תיחוח.
תחום m. (cmp. חומה) [surrounded, marked place,] domminion, area, district, border, limits. Tosef. Shebi. IV, 9, a. fr. צור בת׳ in the district of Tyre. Ib. 11 דשראל ארן ח׳ וכ׳ the border lines of Palestine (with regard to agri- cultural laws) are &c.; (Y. ib. VI, 36a top תחומי pl). -- Y. Ber. VIII, 12c top (ref. to Gen. I, 8) יהא היום . . . לאור וכ׳ תחומך to the light he said, the day be thy dominion, to the darkness he said, the night be thy dominion; Gen. R. s. 3; Yalk. Job 924. Gen. R. s. 6 בתחומו שנכנם ידי על וכ׳ because it (the moon) trespassed on its neighbor's (the sun's) dominion; Yalk. ib. 8; a. fr. --- Esp. שבת ת׳, or ת׳ the (marked of) area around a town or place within phich it is permitted to move on the Sabbath (based on Ex. XVVI, 29), Sabbath liomits (two thousand cubits in every direction). Erub. IV, 3. Ib. III, 4. Ib. 51b חוץ עשיר ויצא וכ׳ לת׳ aud the rich man may go (on Friday) beyond the Sabbath district and say, this be my resting point (שביתה). Hag. 15a שבת ח׳ כאן עד here the Sabbath limits end (you dare not go beyond). Ab. Zar. 8b וכ׳ שסומכין ות׳ . . . עיר the town in which an ordination takes place, shall be destroyed; and the Sabbath district (around it) in which an ordination is held, shall be laid waste; a. fr. -- Pl. תחומים, תחומין. 1b. וכ׳ שבת חחומי שני בין . . הלך he went and sat down (to ordain scholars) between ttwo mountains, and between two large towns, between two Sabbath districts (in an area belonging to neither town), between sha &c. Erub. l. c. תחומי ושני לו שיש כגון ביניהן שבת when he has two houses with two Sabbath distances between them. Ib. 44b וכ׳ נבלעין . ת׳ היו אם if the limits which the scholars assigned to him (to travel. on the Sabbath for public necessities) overlapped his own (ordinary) Sabbath limits. Ib., a. e. ת׳ הבלעת the overlapping of districts. Ib. 35b נינהו דאורייתא ת׳ the law concerning Sabbath limits is Biblical; ib. 36a דרבננן ת׳ is a rabbinical enactment. - Y.
