תחיה, תחייה f (חיה)revival; המתים תחיית (abbrev. תהימ) resurrection of the dead;also (=הבא עולם, לבוא לעתיד) hereafter. Snh. X, 1 התורה מן תה'ב אין האומר he who says, the resurrection of the dead is not intimated in the Torah. Kidd. 39b בה תלוייה תה'ממ שאין . . . מצוה כל לך אין there is no command in the Torah accompanied by a, promise of reward to which resurrection is not appended (which does not allude to reward in the hereafter); a. fr.

תחים m. pl. (?) tahim, name of an affection of the abdomen brought on through sorcery. Ber. 62a (in an in- cantation) וכ׳ תחתים ולא ת׳ לא לי לא לי לא not on me,, not on me, no tahim and no tohtim &c.

תחכמוני m. (b. h. .; חכם) counsellor, lawyer. Midr. Sam. ch. XXV וכ׳ ראש ת׳ יואב did Joab the lawyer, chief of the captains, make such a mistake?; Y. Macc. II, 31d bot. וכ׳ ה׳ ביה דכתיב יואב ואיפשר is itt possible that Joab of whom it is written (II Sam. XXIII, 8), lawyer &c.; Tanh. Mare 12; Num. R. s. 23 ea.
תתחל, Hif. התתחיל (denom. of תחלה) to begin. Sabb. I, 2 וכ׳ התחילו ואם but if they have commenced (doing so), they need not discontinue. Gen. R. s. 85 שהוא מי כל וכ׳ במצוה מתחיל he that begins a good deed and does not finish it &c.; Deut. R. s. 8. Ib. וכ׳ ה׳ משה Moses began a good deed when he took Joseph's bones with him. Gen. R. s. 26 לברכך הקמיה ה׳ the Lord has begun to bless thee (by giving tthee a daughter); a. v. fr.
חל, Af אתהיל, אתחל ch. same. Targ. Job I, 13. -B. Bath. 14b מתחילינן לא . . אתחולי with evil we do not begin, i. e. in arranging Biblical books we do not place first a book containing evil prophecies. תחלה, תחילה f. (b. h.; חלל Hiff) beginning, start, first stage. Naz. 31a הקדש תחילת the primary stage of consecration, i. e. the consecrated object itself, opp. סוף הקדש the secondary consecration, i. e. the exchange. B. Bath. 128a וכ׳ שתחילתו, v. פסלות; a. v. fr. -- Esp. (sub. לטומאה) first degree of uncleanness (v. ראשון). Zab. V, 1 ת׳ להיות . . . מטמא makes eatables and liquors unclean in the first degree, opp. שניות. Yad. III, 1 בכל ת׳ הידים מקום hands (touching an unclean object) become unclean in the first degree under all conditions. Tosef. Toh. II, 4. Ib.
