Davies, (Sir) John, s. John, of London; B.A. from Gloucester Hall 1 July, 1577, M.A. 4 July, 1581, an eminent mathematician, incorp. at Cambridge 1584, knight banneret for services at the taking and sacking of Cadiz (15 Sept., 1596), surveyor of the ordnance 1598, deeply engaged in the rebellion of his patron, the Earl of Leicester, condemned to be hanged, drawn, and quartered, but pardoned, purchased an estate in Pangbourne, Berks, died at Berecourt 14 May, 1625, buried in the chancel, father of John 1626.
