Davies, John, of co. Denbigh; a student in Jesus Coll. 1589, B.A. 16 March, 1593-4 (as Davys); B.D. from Lincoln Coll. 30 June, 1608 (14 years minister of the divine word), D.D. 14 March, 1615-16, 'but nothing in arts,' the eminent Welsh grammarian and lexicographer (son of David), born at Llanferras or Llanrhaiadr in Kinmerch (Wood), rector of Mallwyd, co. Merioneth, 1604, canon of St. Asaph 1617, rector of Llanymowddwy 1613, sinecure rector of Darowen 1613, and of Llanfor 1621, died at Mallwyd 1644.
