White, John, fellow New Coll. 1595, from Wykeham's school, B.A. 12 April, 1597, M.A. 16 Jan., 1600-1; the "patriarch of Dorchester," baptised at Stanton St. John, Oxon, 6 Jan., 1575 (son of John); rector of Trinity, Dorchester, 1605, and vicar of Fering 1605, minister of the Savoy parish, London, one of the Westminster assembly of divines 1643, rector of Lambeth, Surrey; died 21 July, 1648, buried in the church porch of St. Peter in Dorchester; brother of Josias 1593.
