Alison, Sir Archibald, knight, created D.C.L. 9 June, 1853 (son of Rev. Archibald Alison, last named), author of the History of Europe, advocate 1814, sheriff of Lanarkshire 1834, created a baronet 25 June, 1852. See Foster's Baronetage.
