Lytton, Sir Edward George Earle Lytton Bulwer, Bart, of Trinity Hall, Cambridge (B.A. 1826, M.A. 1835, LL.D. 1864), created D.C.L. 9 June, 1853 (son of General William Earle Bulwer), the celebrated novelist, M.P. St. Ives 1831-2, Lincoln 1832-41, Herts 1852-66, created a baronet 18 July, 1838, assumed the name of Lytton by royal licence 10 Feb., 1844, secretary of State for the Colonies 1858-9, created Baron Lytton 14 July, 1866, lord rector of Glasgow University 1856-8.
