Malcolm, Sir John, created D.C.L. 26 June, 1816 (son of George Malcolm, of Burnfoot, co. Dumfries), the celebrated Eastern diplomatist and historian, G.C.B., major-general E.I.C.S., minister plenipotentiary at the Court of Persia, knight of the Lion and the Sun (Persia) 22 Sep., 1812, knighted 15 Dec., 1812, G.C.B., nominated 26 Nov., 1819, installed 1821, major-general 1822, governor of Bombay 1827-31, M.P. Launceston 1831-2, died 30 May, 1833, statue in Westminster Abbey.
