Christ Church, matric. 6 June, 1738, aged 18; B.A. 1742, M.A. 1745, B.C.L. & D.C.L. 1759, dean 1767-76, head-master Westminster School 1753-65, preb. of Durham 1759, chaplain to the king 1756, dean of Rochester 1765-71, vicar of Boxley, Kent, 1765-71, bishop of Chester 1771-6, archbishop of York 1776, until his death 3 Nov., 1807, buried in Westminster Abbey.
