Mavor, John, s. William, of Woodstock, Oxon, doctor. Wadham Coll., matric. 3 June, 1802, aged 16; fellow Lincoln Coll. until 1826, B.A. 1806, M.A. 1808, B.D. 1816, sub-rector 1822, Greek lecturer 1823, claviger 1824, perp. curate Forest Hill, Oxon, 1823, and rector of Hadleigh, Essex, 1825, died in his cell on the debtor side of the Oxford County Gaol 19 June, 1853, his father, rector of Woodstock, was author of the well-known spelling-book, died 29 Dec., 1837.
