McClintock, Sir Francis Leopold; created D.C.L. 20 June, 1860 (s. Henry, of Dundalk, co. Louth), the celebrated Arctic navigator, admiral R.N. 1884, knighted 23 Feb., 1860, for services in search expedition for Sir John Franklin, for which he also received the Royal Geographical Society's gold medal and the freedom of the city of London, naval A.D.C. to the Queen 1868-71, F.R.S., created LL.D., Cambridge 1860, and Dublin 1859.
