Napier, Robert Cornelis, Lord Napier, of Magdab, created D.C.L. 26 June, 1878 (s. Major Charles Frederick Napier, r.a.), field-marshal in the army 1882, colonel commandant royal engineers 1874, commander-in-chief Bombay 1865-9, and in India 1870-5, commanded the Abyssinian Expedition 1867-8, governor of Gibraltar 1876-82, constable of the Tower 1886, created a peer 17 July, 1868, G.C.S.I. 16 Sep., 1867, G.C.B. 27 April, 1868.
