Petty, John, Earl of Shelburne, created D.C.L. 14 June, 1755 (2s. Thomas, Earl of Kerry), assumed the name of Petty in lieu of FitzMaurice, M.P. co. Kerry 1743-51, Chipping Wycombe, Bucks, 1754-60, P.C. Ireland, created Viscount FitzMaurice 7 Oct., 1751, and Earl of Shelburne 6 June, 1753, died 10 May, 1761, father of William, 1st Marquis of Lansdowne. See Foster's Peerage.
