Rose, Sir Hugh Henry, created D.C.L. 21 June, 1865, commanded Central India field force throughout the Indian Mutiny 1857-8, G.C.B., commander-in-chief in India 1860-5, colonel 92nd highlanders 1866-9, royal horse guards 1869-85, created Baron Strathnairn 31 July, 1866, field-marshal 1877, constable of the Tower 1880 (4s. Sir George Henry Rose, G.C.H., of Sandhills, Herts), died 16 Oct., 1885. See Foster's Peerage.
