Watson, John, s. Legh, of Lyme, Cheshire, gent. Brasenose Coll., matric. 8 April, 1742, aged 18; B.A. 1745, M.A. 1748, fellow 1746, curate of Halifax 1750-4, perp. curate Ripponden 1754, F.S.A. 1759, rector of Coningsby, co. Lincoln, 1766-9, of Stockport, Cheshire, 1769, died 14 March, 1783, author of the 'History and Antiquities of the Parish of Halifax' 1775, and 'Memoirs of the Ancient Earls of Warren and Surrey,' etc., father of the next named.
