Wemyss, William, s. James, of Wemyss, co. Fife, arm. Christ Church, matric. 8 May, 1776, aged 16; lieut. -general in the army, raised the Sutherland fencibles (the 93rd regiment) in 1793, and became its 1st colonel in 1800, M.P. Sutherlandshire 1784-87, and Fife 1787-96 and 1807-20, died in Feb., 1822. See Foster's Scots M.P.'s.
