Christ Church, matric. 25 April, 1823, aged 17 (and again 8 July, 1826), B.A. 1826; fellow Merton Coll. 1830-46, M.A. 1831, sub-warden 1840, bar.-at-law, Inner Temple, 1831, Q.C. and a bencher 1841, solicitor-general to Queen, Adelaide, 1845, recorder of London 1850-6, solicitor-general 1856-7, M.P. Halifax 1835-7, Buteshire 1842-59, P.C. 1846, died 22 Aug., 1881, father of Archibald John.
