Dutzend, n., ‘dozen,’ from the equiv. late MidHG. totzen, with an excrescent final d (see Jemand, Mond); from Fr. douzaine (comp. Ital. dozzina), whence also E. dozen, Du. dozijn; ultimately derived from Lat. duodecim.
