Fest, n., ‘festival, fête, feast,’ from the equiv. MidHG. fëst, n., from Lat. festum, whence Ital. festa, Fr. fête (E. feast); Feier is the earlier loan-word. Gothic has simply a native dulþs, ‘feast.’ See Dult.
