Flotte, f., ‘fleet, navy,’ ModHG. only, from Fr. flotte, which, with its Rom. cognates, was borrowed from Scand. flote, n., ‘fleet’; comp. Du. vloot, but E. fleet; all allied to fließen, Teut. root flut.
