Kornelle, f., ‘cornel-cherry,’ even in OHG. cornul, cornul-baum, from MidLat. cornolium (Fr. cornouille, Ital. corniolo); a derivative of Lat. cornus, f., ‘cornel-cherry’; comp. AS. corntreô, E. cornelian-tree.
