Mai, m., from the equiv. MidHG. meie, OHG. meio, m., ‘May.’ Borrowed from Lat. Mâjus (comp. Ital. maggio, Fr. mai), ‘May,’ at the same period as August, März, and Jänner (old form for Januar).
