Pappe, f., ‘pap, paste,’ from MidG. and LG.; comp. Du. and E. pap; MidHG. (MidG.) pap, peppe, ‘pap.’ It is usually derived from Ital. and MidLat. pappa, ‘pap,’ allied to Lat. pappare, ‘to eat.’
