Tropfen, m., ‘drop, tear,’ from the equiv. MidHG. tropfe (troffe), OHG. tropfo (troffo), m.; corresponding to OSax. dropo, Du. drop, AS. dropa, E. drop, and the equiv. OIc. drope. A derivative of the Teut. root drup (see triefen).
