hetzen, vb. ‘to infuriate, provoke, chase, hunt,’ from MidHG. and OHG. hętzen, ‘to chase, hunt, incite’; by permutation from *hatjan; comp. Haß. The subst. Hetze, f., is merely a ModHG. formation from the vb.
