Key[edit]

The Analog Science Fiction and Fact indices use the following format:

Issues[edit]

Each issue is represented by a second-level heading with the cover date. The cover of the issue will be visible on the right of each entry if in the public domain; if not, a box with copyright renewal information will take its place. Each issue is described in this format:

Volume x, Issue y (scan index)
Cover art by Artist's Name
Edited by Editor's Name
  • Item 1
  • Item 2
  • etc...

The volume and issue number will link to a proofread version of the issue where available; in these cases, the template {{Small scan link}} will also be present. Cover art, editor information and other issue-wide information will be shown between the issue number and the bulleted list of contents (if this is consistant throughout the year, it will be in the notes section of the header instead). Items refer to each text within the issue; these will be linked to the appropriate text if it is in the public domain.

Items[edit]

Each text in an issue is listed as bullet points in this format:

  • Title • Author's Name • Format
  • Title [Part n on n; *Series Name]• Author's Name [as Pseudonym] • Format (Note)

In some cases the format is abbreviated as follows:

  • n. - serialised/complete novel

  • nv - novelette
  • ss - short story
  • vi - vignette (listed under "short fiction" in the magazines' contents pages)
  • e  - essay/article
  • v  - verse

Additional information is occasionally provided in square brackets. For example:

  • [Part n on n] - indicates which part of a serialised story is contained in the issue.
  • [*Series Name] - indicates that this is part of a series featuring or related to "Name."
  • [as Pseudonym] - indicates that the author is known to have used a pseudonym, the text was ghost written on similar.

For example, from January 1936:

  • The Hour of the Dragon [Part 2 of 5; *Conan] • Robert E. Howard • novel

The title of the story is "The Hour of the Dragon"; it was serialised in five parts of which this is the second; it is part of the Conan series; the author is Robert E. Howard; it is a novel.
