Alexandru Ioan Cuza
Alexandru Ioan Cuza (also spelled Alexander Joan Cuza in English, sometimes misrendered as Alexander John Cuza) was the first and last princely ruler ("Domnitor" after 1600) of Romanian origin for the United Romanian Principalities, who was elected independently by popular vote in both Wallachia and Moldavia, and reigned from 1859 to 1866.
