Born on 28 February 1894. Educated at Merton College, Oxford (BA, 1915). Appointed an Assistant Keeper at the Public Records Office in 1920 and an archivist at the Institute of Historical Research in 1921. Awarded the DLitt by the University of Oxford in 1936. Died on 4 January 1944.
