OBITUARY

VEN. JOHN HEALY, LL.D.

The death is announced of the Venerable John Healy, LL.D.. former Archdeacon of Meath, and oldest clergyman in the Church of Ireland. Dr. Healy, who was 92 last month was in residence at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin and preached with all his old vigour only a few days ago.

Deceased was the senior member of the Chapter and, Treasurer of St. Patrick's. Formerly Rector of Kells, he was one of the greatest authorities of his day on early Irish history, ecclesiastical and secular. His published writings include: "The Ancient Irish Church", "The Vikings of Ireland" and a history of the Diocese of the Diocese of Meath in two volumes.

Dr. Healy was father-in-law of Ven. W. F. Alment, B.D., the present Archdeacon of Meath.

The funeral took place to St. Columba's Churchyard, Kells, on Wednesday. The Service was taken by Rev. J. H. Carson, M.A., Rector, Kells, assisted by Rev. G. N. Cave, Belfast, and Rev. J. T. Given, Kells, Co. Kilkenny (grandsons of the deceased). The Bishop of Meath attended. The chief mourners were—Rev. T. Healy and Dr. J. F. C. Healy (sons), Mrs. Almet, Mrs. Given and Mrs. Cave (daughters); Dr. J. Healy, Miss M. Almet, John Almet, Miss Given (relatives).
