Chapter 1

¹ Peter, Apostle of Jesus Christ, to those of Gods chosen people, strangers in the world, dispersed throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia,

² chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the Holy work of the Spirit, in obedience to and in the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ, may grace and peace be with you and multiplied.

³ Blessings and praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! Who is his mercy has fathered us into a living hope by the resurrection from the dead of our Lord Jesus Christ,

⁴ into an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, reserved in the heavens for you all,

⁵ who via the power of God are guarded through faith to salvation ready to be disclosed at the last time.

⁶ In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if it is deemed necessary, you all have been grieved in various trials,

⁷ that with proof of your faith, which is much more valued then gold which parishes, though tested by fire, may be result to praise, glory, and honor to the revelation of Jesus Christ,

⁸ whom, though not having seen, you love. In Him, though He is now not being seen, you all believe, and thus you rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory,

⁹ receiving the results of faith, salvation of the soul.

¹⁰ Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you sought and searched diligently,

¹¹ searching for what kind of time or circumstance the Spirit of Christ, which was in them pointed to when they predicted the intended sufferings of Christ and the following glories.

¹² To them it was revealed that they served not themselves, but you, in regard to these things, which now have been proclaimed to you through those who told the Good News to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, which are things the angels desire to look into.

¹³ Therefore prepare your minds for action^[1]; act sober; set your hope fully on the grace that brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

¹⁴ As obedient children, do not be conformed according to your former lusts as in your ignorance,

¹⁵ but just as He who called you is holy, you all in your behavior must be holy,

¹⁶ for it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”^[2]
