Port Jefferson; February 16, 1899. Capt. Charles F. Kinner, an old and highly respected resident of this village, died suddenly last Friday night. On Thursday he attended the funeral of a brother Mason, and the same evening he attended a meeting or his lodge and was apparently in good health. On Friday morning he arose as usual and attended to his heater. While at this work he was taken with hemiplegia, and the family found him lying on the floor in a semi-conscious state. He lived until nearly midnight, but did not regain consciousness. Capt. Kinner was born in Port Jefferson in 1829. Early in life he chose the occupation of seaman. At the age of 20 he married Mary F., daughter of the late Amasa Sturtevant. They had two children, one of whom, Mrs. Daniel S. Smith, is still living. His wife lived but a few years. About 1862 he married Miss Annie Elisa Homan, daughter of the late Clark and Sarah Homan. They had two children, Charles D. and Joseph B., both of whom are living. Capt. Kinner followed yachting thirty-five years, his last command being the schooner-yacht Nirvana, owned by the estate of the late George J. Tyson, of Riverside, Connecticut. The yacht is at present lying in the harbor and the Captain was under full pay at the time of his death. The Rev. E. K. Creed officiated at the funeral. Suffolk Lodge, F. and A. M., No. 60, of which the deceased was a very active member, attended services and conducted the burial service at the house instead of at the grave owing to the increment weather.
