No. 100 Front Street.

Portland, Oregon, _Jan 21_ 1888

Hon Eugene Semple
Gov. Wash. Terr'y

Dear sir:—

Permit me, in my own behalf, and on behalf of many earnest, thoughtful women of my acquaintance in the state of Oregon and the territory which you have as Chief Majistrate, to cordially thank, and earnestly congratulate you for having signed so promptly the bill lately passed by the legislature at Olympia, conferring suffrage upon women.

Being fully aware of the tremendous pressure brought to bear upon you to induce an opposite course on your part, I understand and appreciate the quality of courage, and of the underlying principle that caused your action in the premises.

Hoping that the class to whom the full privileges of citizenship were secured by the writing of your name, will aid, by the great level thus placed in their hands in conferring upon you future political honors in the "State of Washington," and again thanking you for your courageous act I am most respectfully

Catherine A. Coburn
